A vehicle involved in a chase killed a 17-year-old driver, Jade Deleonardo, and injured her passenger, Reniya Armstead, 19, per accident reports. The Georgia State Patrol reported that the crash happened on Sunday, May 10, at Moreland Avenue, near Constitution Road.
The GSP, in its report, said that deputies were on the trail of four suspects that were in a Mitsubishi Galant. The suspects drove into Dekalb County at about 3:30 a.m., but investigators noted that the details regarding the cause of the chase remain unclear at this time.
Meanwhile, Deleonardo, in her bid to head north to Moreland Avenue, took a left turn. Immediately the deceased turned, the Galant ran a red light and collided with her Chevrolet Cavalier.
When responding officers and medics arrived, they pronounced her dead at the scene of the accident. Armstead, a passenger in Deleonardo’s vehicle, sustained critical injuries. Medics rushed the victim to Grady Memorial Hospital. No update is available on her present condition.
The four suspects in the Gallant sustained injuries from the crash. Medics also rushed them to the same hospital as Armstead. The update on their conditions was not provided.
The suspects’ identities were, however, revealed as Sebastin Miles, 28, of Riverdale, and Rodney Harris, 44, of Fayetteville. The others are Montreaz Harris, 28, of Atlanta, and Brandon Wyldon, 31, of Riverdale.
A GSP spokesman revealed that there would be charges after investigations.
Accident reports indicated that the GSP initially identified the Clayton County police as the agency that initiated the chase.
However, a statement credited to a spokeswoman for that department said that the Clayton County Sheriff’s Office was the only agency involved.
