One man sustained non-life-threatening injuries in a crash that took place in the Effingham County on April 6, Monday. The incident happened in the evening and was reported to the authorities at around 8:00 p.m. as per accident reports from the state police.
According to the details shared by Georgia State Police District 12 troopers, the truck accident occurred on the southbound lanes of the Interstate 57, close to the milepost 163. It involved two vehicles including a passenger vehicle and a semi-trailer.
The semi-trailer was traveling in front of the passenger vehicle when it had to slow down due to traffic. The passenger car traveling right behind the trailer was unable to slow down in time. It ended up rear-ending the truck.
The passenger vehicle was identified as a 2006 Beige Mercedes Benz. Its driver was identified as Philip Stein, 37, of Effingham, Illinois. The other vehicle was identified as a 2005 Maroon Freightliner truck tractor. The truck driver was identified as Fikadu Tesefahuney, 32, of Alexandria, Virginia.
Stein sustained minor injuries when his car rear-ended the truck. He was transported to a local hospital where he received treatment for his injuries. Tefefahuney remained largely safe in the incident and no injuries for him were reported in the ISP crash report.
Following the incident, ISP conducted on-site preliminary investigations for the crash. As per these investigations, it was determined that negligence on the part of Stein caused the crash. He was consequently cited for failure to reduce speed in order to avoid an accident. It isn’t clear whether any subsequent accident reports about the incident will be released by ISP.
