White Elementary School, Bartow, near Cartersville Georgia, lost one of its beloved teachers, Angie Townsend, 55, in a fatal car accident. The town shared the news on Wednesday, February 26th.

Townsend, a paraprofessional, died from the injuries she sustained when 20-year-old Christopher Parker slammed into her car. According to the Georgia State Patrol, the young man had stolen his grandmother’s car from Alabama.

On February 21st, the GSP engaged in a high-speed chase with Parker in an attempt to get him to pull over and take him into custody. The young man did not budge but drove at a speed of 95 miles per hour.

Townsend was trying to turn left on the road when the young man collided with the driver’s side of her car. She was pronounced dead at the scene while Parker survived with injuries.

The GSP report indicated that another car was involved in the accident, but did not reveal the identity of the driver or if the person was injured or not. The young man got arrested at the scene of the accident.

He got charged with felony fleeing and attempting to elude police, vehicular manslaughter, and felony receiving stolen property. He also got charged with bringing stolen goods across the state line.

Parker has several arrest warrants waiting for him in Alabama but would face trial in Georgia for his offenses there. The accident is still under investigation, and the young man is awaiting sentencing.

Townsend was an impactful member of her community. The school plans to dedicate a butterfly garden in her honor at a memorial service, which they will hold soon.
