The Richmond Hill High School sports community was thrown into mourning on Thursday following the death of a beloved coach and youth motivator in a car accident in the Richmond Hill city of Bryan County, Georgia. The tragic accident took place on Thursday, March 19.
The deceased, Steven Williams, met his end in a vehicle crash while travelling through Highway 17 in the Savannah Metropolitan Statistical Area.
Prior to his demise, the Georgian man served as an assistant coach for the Richmond Hill boys basketball team for at least eight years, as well as a high school football referee. One of his recent achievements was leading the Wildcats to victory in the Region 2-AAAAAA championship in the last season.
His death was a huge blow to the Richmond Hill community, as he was one of the great achievers in the sports sector, developing the Georgia Coastal Ballers AAU team into a successful program famed for grooming talented athletes since its inception in 2008.
Steven’s passion for sports made him a beloved coach in his local community, so much so that he was described by many as an incredible human being who touched a lot of lives.
One of the basketball stars coached by the deceased, Daniel Wilder, described him as the backbone of the Richmond Hill community.
A balloon release memorial for the car wreck victim was slated for Saturday, March 21, to be attended by family and friends. It was announced that the celebration of life would take place by 7 pm at South Bryan County Recreation’s Timber Trail Park, Richmond Hill.
