Anthony Johnson Issued a Citation Following Traffic Wreck on Hartley Bridge Road

A motorist was issued a citation on Friday, March 27, after a tractor-trailer he was driving caused an accident on Hartley Bridge Road in Macon, Georgia severely damaging a part of the bridge and leaving a woman hospitalized with major injuries.

The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office confirmed the incident on Friday afternoon, reporting that the tragic collision took place at about 3 pm along Interstate 75.

As reported, the driver of the tractor-trailer, which was transporting a large piece of equipment, was driving through Hartley Bridge when he attempted a north turn towards I-75.

Just as he negotiated the turn, a part of the equipment being hauled struck the bridge from underneath, causing severe wreckage, with several broken parts falling off.

The rubbles from the dented bridge struck another vehicle which was traveling behind the tractor-trailer, resulting in a tragic wreck.

The driver of the car, a 55-year-old unidentified woman, suffered severe injuries in the collision and was transported to the Coliseum Hospital and has since been in stable condition.

Meanwhile, the driver of the big rig, identified as Anthony Johnson, 54, was unharmed in the accident and was issued a citation by the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office.

Following the incident, all east travel lanes on Hartley Bridge Road, as well as the on-ramp from the east lanes to Interstate 75 were shut down by the Georgia Department of Transportation pending when the bridge is ascertained safe for commuters.
